The Land Rover Owners’ Club of Gippsland was established in 1994. Ray Massaro, dealer principal of Massaro Motors Land Rover of Morwell was the driving force with Frank O’Neill, the first President. Gippsland Land Rover continues to make a significant contribution to the club.
The club is a four wheel drive touring group with an emphasis on family participation and enjoying each others’ company and our vehicles.
In Central Gippsland we are surrounded by some of the best four wheel drive destinations in Australia and club trips make the most of both the locality and local knowledge. A mix of day trips and base camp events is undertaken. Some of our past trips have visited Crooked River, Walhalla, Woods Point, Wonnangatta Valley, Mayford, Crooked River Goldfields, Lakes National Park, Blue Rag Range, Snowy River, Noojee, Omeo, South Gippsland hills, Croajingalong National Park, Dargo, and the Avon River. Club members have run trips to more distant locations like Robe, the Yorke Peninsular, the Flinders Ranges and to Cooma for the 50th and 60th anniversaries of Land Rover.
The Melbourne Cup weekend is traditionally a base camp for members who travel to a different location in the state each year, set up their caravans, camper trailers or tents and enjoy the surrounding tracks and tourist destinations.
The Land Rover Owners’ Club of Gippsland has a close relationship with Parks Victoria and engages in volunteer work in the Alpine National Park. On these usually multi day events, club members have worked with Parks Victoria Ranges at Wonnangatta Valley, Wellington River, Kelly Lane, Talbotville and historic hut sites including Howitt, Kelly, Moroka and Horseyards huts.
The close association with Gippsland Land Rover allows members access to the latest Land Rover news and products. There are other member benefits provided by Gippsland Land Rover.
The Land Rover Owners’ Club of Gippsland is affiliated with Four Wheel Drive Victoria; the peak body for recreational four wheel drive users in Victoria.
